The Problem with Loose Dentures

July 14, 2014

Dentures that don’t fit properly cause a number of problems for the wearer. There are even times when the loose denture problems outweigh the advantages of using dentures as missing teeth solutions, especially when intense discomfort is experienced by the denture wearer. At IS Dental Care in Wanstead, we can help ease your pain and embarrassment with dental implants that can put an end to loose denture problems.

Problems with Loose Dentures

Discomfort/Pain – The continuous rubbing motion of loose dentures against the gums causes pain and discomfort. The ill-fitting dentures can also rub painfully against other soft mouth parts, and the friction can cause irritating mouth sores to develop. It can also be uncomfortable to eat or chew properly with dentures that move continuously inside the mouth.

Embarrassment – A person will experience a great deal of embarrassment when the dentures fall out unexpectedly from inside the mouth – an occurrence which is not that uncommon among those who use loose dentures. Another source of embarrassment is the clicking sound that results when one speaks, and the ill-fitting dentures simultaneously move against the gums.

Jawbone Deterioration – Long-term denture use can cause jawbone deterioration, since the jawbone does not have the stimulation it needs to maintain its healthy structure. The jawbone will continue to become thinner as the years go by without the replacement for the lost natural tooth roots.
