Ace Dental

We all know what dentures are detachable dental prosthetics used in cases where patients have lost a number of teeth or have teeth in such a poor condition that they need to have their natural teeth removed and replaced.

Ace Dental has a number of different options for those needing dentures and they can make life a lot easier for those who need a total revamp to improve the look and function of their smile.

What Are The Different Types Of Dentures?

Ace Dental offers a full range of dentures and the best type for you will be determined when you visit your dentist for your initial consultation. Depending on the state of your existing teeth, your dentist may recommend a complete set of dentures or partial dentures.

A complete set of dentures is suitable for patients who have lost all or most of their natural teeth on both the upper and lower arch. Complete dentures use suction force to fit securely on the gums and often use dental adhesive to keep them fixed to your gums.

Partial dentures can replace one or more teeth. This procedure uses prosthetic teeth that attach to a plate that is the same colour as your gums. They can also be attached to via clips on neighbouring teeth for a secure fit.

Other options available to those who need dentures are implanted retained dentures and custom dentures. While these are the most common dentures that may be recommended, other options are also available. Talk to your dentist to discover which dentures will be the most suitable for you.

What To Expect

Your first consultation with your Ace Dental practitioner will include a full examination of your existing teeth, or what is left of them. A 3D scan or an x-ray is taken to give the dentist a full picture of your jaw. This image is sent to a laboratory so that your temporary, or instant, dentures can be made. Any teeth that are still there may be removed under local anaesthetic. It will take a few days or a couple of weeks for your gums to heal, but once they are healed, you’re ready for the next step.

Next, your dentist will take an impression of your gums so that your custom dentures can be made. Whether you have been fitted for full dentures or partial dentures, the process is very similar and the final visit to your dentist is to have your dentures fitted and, at this time, the dentist will explain how to remove, insert and care for your dentures.

How Long Do Dentures Last?

Ace Dental prosthetics are made from quality materials and with the proper care, you can expect your dentures to last for quite a few years. As we get older, our gums can shrink or recede. That means our gums will also change shape. If you already have dentures, this is usually the time when you will need to have your dentures replaced.

How To Care For Your Dentures

To prolong the life of your dentures, you need to take care of them. This involves regular cleaning. Your Ace Dental practitioner will give you detailed care instructions and they are quite simple to follow.

You should remove your dentures at least once a day to give them a thorough cleaning. Ideally, you should be cleaning them after each meal. To clean your dentures, you need a soft-bristled toothbrush and a denture cleaning solution.

Just before you go to bed, remove your dentures and clean them. Once they are clean, soak them overnight in sterilizing solution specifically formulated for dentures. This will ensure any residual impurities and bacteria are removed.

Avoid using hot water, harsh cleaning solutions or a hard-bristled toothbrush as these can damage your dentures. You will also find it helpful to maintain a regular schedule of visits to your dentist to ensure proper care and function is maintained.
